Owning or Managing My Own Business

One of the great advantages of being an in-demand skilled technician is the opportunity to go into business for yourself! Alumni from a number of Thaddeus Stevens programs own their own businesses—some after only a few years in the industry.

Nationwide, nearly one in six people who work in construction are self-employed, the second highest of all major industries. Similarly, 18 percent of automotive technicians, 15 percent of HVAC mechanics and 11 percent of electricians are self-employed. Even better, these careers are much more lucrative than more common self-employment jobs, such as child care workers, housekeepers and even farmers.

Thanks to Thaddeus Stevens’s balanced curriculum, you’ll have the technical skills that put you at the head of the class, plus broad learning in math and communications that make up the foundation of a successful entrepreneur!
